Escamacu accepted gifts and trade and allegiance with SA without converting to Christianity
The caciques of Escamacu accepted gifts from the gasto de indios, professed allegiance to the king, and sold maize to the presidio, all without offering to be Christians (Menendez Marquez and Horruytiner, 1647c; Santa Cruz, 1655).
