Spanish Guale began to become English Georgiaedit

Between 1670 and 1733 Spanish Guale slowly and relentlessly became English Georgia. With the founding of Charleston in 1670, Spanish influence in Guale began to wane as the English moved to establish their pre-eminence in the area. English pressure forced Spanish missionaries south to labor in less dangerous villages near Saint Augustine or Apalache, leaving their missions and their influence behind them. (Tepaske GSF)
