Gov. Salazar collected donations to build the castillo
When Governor Hita Salazar needed to put the castillo into defensible order he gave the first 200 pesos himself, to put others under obligation, and then collected 1,600 pesos from the royal officials of the treasury, the sergeant major, the captain, other officers and those receiving bonuses, with some private individuals who raised cattle.
