Anticorsair Alejandro Leon wiped out Stuarts Town
Then in August, with floridano encouragement, [anticorsair Alejandro Leon] wiped out Stuarts Town, eliminating the nearest pirate sanctuary. Among those killed was the cagey cacique Niquisalla (Marquez Cabrera, 1686a; Colleton, 1688; Leturiondo 1700).
The "dislodging" of a settlement established after 1670 did not in itself violate the Treaty of Madrid, but Leon's forces pushed northward to Edisto Island...
