Fr. Domingo Agustin wrote a Yamasee Grammar just before he died
Brother Domingo was a born linguist, and within six months he had translated the Catechism and prepared a grammar in the Yamassee tongue. This Guale grammar, it would seem, was the first ever written on United States soil. But Brother Domingo wrote no more grammars in this world. Before the end of the year he died during an epidemic, a martyr to the Faith in Georgia.
