Indians revolted against the Jesuit missionaries in FLedit

These first Jesuit missionary labors were short lived. The Indians had their own view of things. During an uprising in 1570 the missions of Guale and Orista were deserted. Father Segura and his little band withdrew to Virginia, where they were forthwith slaughtered by the very Indians they hoped to save. At the same time the garrisons at San Agustin, San Pedro, and San Felipe were reduced to fifty men each.
