Barbadians in Carolina acted like there were no border laws
For a decade [1670-1680] the English cloud hovered over Santa Catalina, guardian of the Guale border. England and Spain were nominally at peace, but this did not prevent Carolinian trade and intrigue with the Indians. Old Barbadians in Carolina proceeded as if they were still "beyond the line." The Guale missions were a menace, and their neophytes would make good slaves on Carolina plantations. Savage allies were eager to join in the work of destruction.
