Cardross’s Scotch colony sponsored Yamasee raiding parties and bought their plunderedit

Led by Chief Altamaha, and encouraged and outfitted by Lord Cardross, the Yamassees now made a raid clear across Guale to the Timucua missions west of San Agustin (February, 1685). At Santa Catalina de Afuica early one morning they sacked the mission, killed some of the inhabitants, and carried off others to be sold as slaves. When they returned, the raiders were met at the Savannah by Lord Cardross and his men, eager to buy their plunder.
