Charles Dempsey was sent to mediate between GA and SA
A new diplomatic battle now took place. Geraldino protested in the name of Spain;2 Newcastle replied for England. The old arguments were thrashed over, and Charles Dempsey was sent to America to assist in the negotiations. Like a shuttle-cock he darted back and forth between Georgia and Florida. Oglethorpe insisted on the San Juan River as a boundary, and backed his demand with soldiers.1
