Oglethorpe was made commander-in-chief of SC and GA forces
Oglethorpe now returned to England to demand of the Trustees more soldiers, more funds, and more power.2 [Note 2 For Oglethorpe's demands for troops and money while in England in 1737, see Stevens, History of Georgia, I, 150-152; Jones, History of Georgia, I, ch. 17; Egmont's Diary, II, 339, 368, 383, 401, 414-417, 427-431, 433-438, 457, 469, 494, 501; Ga. Col. Rec., I, 323-324; IV, 140-151; V, 18-19.] The Trustees turned to Parliament and that body complied. Oglethorpe was made commander-in-chief of all the forces of Carolina as well as of Georgia. He was now in effect Count of the Southern March.
