...On all accounts it was better to ship off the Indians to New England or the West Indies, and to import blacks. When the trade was young, permits were issued during one month (October, 1681) for the transportation of forty [Indian?] slaves. 21 [Note 21: Court of Ordinary Records, 1672-1692 (MS).] ... The chief markets were in the islands and in New England.
