SC outlawed some of the traders' Indian abuses
In 1707 certain notorious abuses were outlawed: the extortion of presents for governors, the enslaving of free Indians, the sale of rum and the supplying of hostile Indians with ammunition. 59 [Note 59: Act of July 19, 1707, articles iii, iv, viii, ix. Traders were required to file bonds of £100 to obey the law and the agent's instructions (article ii).]
