SC customs exported 257 hogsheads of deerskins to England
Appendix A: Exports of Peltry 1698-1765
Table IV: Exports of deerskins from Charles Town, 1739-1765.1
From Christmas, 1743 To Christmas, 1744:
130884 Deerskins (pounds)
257 Hogsheads
[Note 1 The statistics in the left-hand columns-of hogsheads and pounds of deerskins exported from Christmas to Christmas-are from a table (based on the Charles Town customs books) transmitted by John Stuart to the Board of Trade, March 9, 1764 (C.O.)]
[Note 3 From this table it appears that a hogshead of deerskins ordinarily weighed from 500 lbs. to 515 lbs., according to the size of the skins and the method of packing. The skins exported to Great Britain probably averaged about 1-1/2 lbs.]
