Cuban relief ships arrived at the bar of SA
During the last week of November and the first weeks of December, an uneasy stalemate set in at Saint Augustine, as it became obvious that victory would belong to the one whose ships arrived first. Fortunately for Zuniga the Spanish won the race. The day after Christmas, 1702, four Cuban ships appeared off the bar of Saint Augustine with reinforcements and supplies for the embattled Floridians. Zuniga immediately dispatched a launch to welcome the vessels, to explain his situation at the fort, and to bring in food. [Note 12: gov to king 1/6/1703]
