SA faced homelessness and smallpoxedit

Although Zuniga had thrown back the English, he now faced many new problems. The English had destroyed most of Saint Augustine, leaving many residents homeless and the church and convent in ashes. As an aftermath of the siege, a smallpox epidemic broke out to cause the governor further concern. His defenses had withstood the onslaught, but the immense task of reconstruction now lay before him. In his present state it was unlikely Saint Augustine could stand another siege. [Note 15: Fray Alcano to king 6/30/1703] (Tepaske GSF)
