Gov. Johnson refused to surrender Charlestonedit

Hoping to take Charleston without a struggle, Lefebvre sent a message to Governor Nathaniel Johnson on the morning of September 8, demanding the surrender of the entire colony. Given an hour to reply, Johnson answered immediately. He needed “not a Quarter of an hour or a minute’s time.” He would throw back all invaders. [Note 35: Auto 9/23/1706] (Tepaske GSF)
