Council of the Indies created an alphabetical dictionary of cedula legislation
Diccionario de Gobierno y Legislación de Indias. (Archivo Histórico Nacional, Códices, Libros 726-751). This multi-volume dictionary was created by the Council of the Indies as an alphabetical instrument in order to manage the multi-volume cedulario created by José Manuel de Ayala at the end of the 18th century (Archivo Histórico Nacional, Códices, Libros 684-725), but incorporating major legislation since the 16th century. Each entry comprises extracts of cédulas (decrees) in specific topical areas, referenced by date, book number, and folio. The original images can be viewed by searching on the PARES website under the Archivo Histórico Nacional, using the following entry for Signatura (using the three digit libro number as indicated in the index below): CODICES,L.7__. The full alphabetical list of topics, also organized by legajo number, is provided on a separate Topical Index page.
