The viceroy refused to obey the king's edict to attack Carolina
Again the viceroy refused to send military aid to Florida, but this time he took a strong stand in an effort to settle the whole question. After consulting a junta, he stated flatly that he was resolved “to suspend execution of the king’s edict” requiring him to aid Corcoles. Although the viceroy was anxious to eliminate the English menace in Carolina, he did not have the means at his disposal to carry out the king’s order. [Note 47: viceroy to FL gov 11/1/1708]
