Primo reported a new French outpost on St. Joseph's Bay
Not long after the erection of San Marcos, Primo had to undertake a similar mission at Saint Joseph’s Bay. In July, 1718, the Spanish governor of Pensacola reported to Governor Benavides in Saint Augustine that the French had established a new outpost on Saint Joseph’s Bay, which threatened communications between Pensacola and Apalache. [Note 65: Consejo 1/13/1719] In the meantime the French evacuated the Saint Joseph’s area, but to prevent its reoccupation by an enemy force, Benavides ordered Primo to take as many men as he could spare to hold Saint Joseph’s until reinforcements arrived.
