Primo established a small garrison on St. Joseph's Bay
Primo dutifully detached 12 men from his force in Apalache and late in 1718 began fortifying Saint Joseph’s. [Note 66: Consejo 1/18/1719] With help from Pensacola and “Saint Augustine, the cavalry captain managed to maintain a precarious foothold on Saint Joseph’s Bay, but aid was at best sporadic.
