The king rejected Menendez Marques' request to choose his own successor
The king flatly rejected the accountant’s request and continued to use ordinary appointive procedures. The king would choose all officials in Florida upon recommendation of the governor in Saint Augustine and the Council of the Indies. [Note: King to contador de la Florida 9/5/1721]
