Spain allied with England and France
Intercolonial conflicts in the Southeast never followed a consistent pattern. Sometimes the outbreak of war in Europe between England and Spain meant hostilities between Florida and Carolina; at other times events in Europe had little bearing in the colonies.
...[In 1721] when Spain joined England and France in a new alliance, relations between Florida and Carolina might have been expected to improve; instead tensions increased almost to the brink of war.
