Benavides first learned about Fort King George eight months after it appeared
Governor Benavides was the first to challenge English activities on the Altamaha. [Note 71: gov to king 4/19/1722. The governor’s scouting reports were hardly up-to-date. Evidence points to the fact that Benavides did not learn about Fort King George until February 1722.]
