Royal officials claimed the king had been misinformed if they didn't like a royal order
The royal officials were no more anxious than the governor to obey a distasteful order. Their standard maneuver was to tell the king that either by an inadvertent error or for some sinister reason he had been misinformed. [Note 5: Juan Menendez Marquez 3/14/1608; Francisco Menendez Marquez and Pedro Benedit Horruytiner 5/17/1646] No one flatly told the Spanish monarch that he was wrong.
