English withdrew from Fort King Georgeedit

In the fall of 1727 the English withdrew their garrison from Fort King George because of the threat of a war among the Creeks and of a renewal of hostilities with Spain. The evacuation, however, was much against the wishes of the Board of Trade in England, who hoped to maintain their foothold in the “debatable land.” (Tepaske GSF)
