The new bishop of Cuba finally assumed financial responsibility for an auxiliary bishop in FLedit

In the end Benavides had little to fear. Until his death in 1729 Bishop Molina adamantly refused to release the money necessary to establish the auxiliary bishopric in Saint Augustine. His two successors, however, the short-lived Francisco de Sarregui, formerly dean of the cathedral chapter at Segovia, and in 1731, Juan Loso de la Vega, proved willing to bear the financial burden of the office. Late in 1731 Lose de la Vega appointed Francisco de San Buenaventura y Tejada, master of arts in theology and guardian of a Franciscan convent in Seville, as auxiliary bishop. [Note 34: Consulta de la Camara 12/6/1731] In February, 1732, Buenaventura accepted the post and left Spain for the Indies. (Tepaske GSF)
