An epidemic swept through SA
Juan de Paredes... the sacristan had won the favor of Governor Benavides. In fact the sacristan was so deeply in the former governor’s good graces that he received a long gubernatorial testimony to his good works. In his eulogy Benavides praised Paredes as pious, dedicated, and faithful. When an epidemic swept through the colony in 1732, the sacristan had ministered untiringly to the sick for four long months.
