Moral requested funds and 500 men to build a stone fort at Apalache
For other projects Moral needed outside aid. He simply did not have the money, men, or supplies to accomplish more. Bemoaning his inadequacy, Moral wrote to the king in March, 1735, requesting funds to replace the wooden blockhouse at Apalache with a more defensible stone structure. In all Florida, Moral declared, he had only 228 able-bodied men ready to take arms in case of an English attack.
