FL friars sent respective reps to Havana to solve their dispute
The rift in the order seemed to move toward a solution in December, 1735, when representatives from both factions appeared in Havana to present their cases before the bishop of Cuba. Deciding tentatively in favor of the Creoles, he refused to take any action to settle the problem and asked Franciscan officials in New Spain for their determination. In Mexico, therefore the commissary general for New Spain voided both chapters and appointed a new provincial, Juan Romero, to lead the order in Florida.
