Talapuses and Uchizes drove the Indians at Picolata into SA
In 1735 a band of Talapuses and Uchizes attacked Picolata, the Spanish fort erected on the banks of the Saint John’s, eight leagues west of Saint Augustine. Killing one Spanish soldier, the Indians drove the Yamasees and Timucuans living in villages near Picolata into Saint Augustine and devastated Picolata. [Note 46: Cedula San Ildefonso 10/19/1735.]
