Moral asked for aid to attack Oglethorpe
Moral asked for 1,500 regulars to carry out a surprise attack on Oglethorpe in Georgia, evidence that he was not bargaining with the Georgians in good faith. Moral also wanted a number of gifts to pacify the Indians. He believed the sharp contrast between the gifts offered by the English and those proffered by the Spaniards contributed greatly to the loss of Spanish prestige among those savages, who held the balance of power in the Southeast. [Note 13: gov to Patino 10/2/1736] Moral made peace as he prepared for war, but on the other side it appears that his protagonist was engaged in the same subterfuge.
