Guemes appointed Joseph de Justice temporary governor for SA
Both Joseph de Justis and Fulgencio Garcia de Solis were appointees of the governor of Cuba. Neither was in any way connected with Florida prior to assuming the temporary governorship. In March 1737, Governor Juan Francisco de Guemes y Horcasitas, later viceroy of New Spain, appointed Justis to replace the accused Moral Sanchez.
...Interim governors had the same wide military experience as their permanent counterparts. Joseph de Justis (1737) served first as a cadet in a Sevillian regiment, then as an infantry captain in the Basque province of Guipuzcoa, and finally as sergeant major in Santiago de Cuba.
