Moral petitioned the Council of the Indies in his own defenseedit

In the meantime Moral had been working feverishly to extricate himself from his uncomfortable cell in Santa Catalina prison. Initially he pressed the Council of the Indies with petitions protesting his innocence, complaining that he had been victimized by his enemies on the basis of inconclusive evidence.
