Montiano reported SA's emergency fund depleted with no recordsedit

If experience had been a teacher, it had shown that such a fund simply could not last in Florida, no matter what strictures the king might apply. Florida was continually in need and perennially in an economic crisis. In fact, within four years the money and supplies were gone. By the time Governor Montiano took office in 1737 only a “little suet lead, and a few candle wicks” remained from the shipment of [Feb] 1733. Montiano also reported that he had found no accounts verifying the use of the fund. [Note 78: Gov to king 11/11/1737] (Tepaske GSF)
