NOTE 1. Since the original royal asiento to Pedro Menendez de Aviles, along with much of the remaining material in Document 1, had been presented elsewhere (Lyon, 1976: 213-219), this 49-folio portion of the Montiano package was not microfilmed in Seville at the same time as the rest of the material (1991).
