In 1742 Montiano said not one real of situado was received for 1739, 1740, or 1741
In a dispatch to Philip V [Montiano] emphasized the suffering and misery in Florida, brought about by delays, shortages, or non-delivery of the subsidy.
...“not one real” of the situados for 1739, 1740, or 1741 had been delivered. In strong terms Montiano asserted, “Saint Augustine, Florida, is the most odious and abhorrent name heard in New Spain and Havana.”
