Oglethorpe's troops took 30 horses from deserted Mose
Again he lost no time. On May 16 his troops reached Mosa, the fortified Negro village only a mile north of Saint Augustine, and seized 30 horses in the deserted town. Although elated over his successes, Oglethorpe did not wish to extend his lines too close to Fort San Marcos. He retired north of Fort San Diego and from there moved to San Juan to bring the remainder of his troops within striking distance of the center of Spanish power in Florida.
