Oglethorpe's men sat in due to rain and dysenteryedit

On May 18 when the Georgian reached his headquarters on the Saint John’s, his plans went awry. Heavy spring rains had ruined much of his food supply and his powder and had caused considerable discomfort to his men, who were fast losing their morale because of the spread of dysentery. Both the rains and the illness of his troops forced Oglethorpe to postpone any major action, and for 11 days he did nothing but send out small patrols to reconnoiter the area around Saint Augustine.
