Philip V ordered Montiano and Guemes to prepare for a new campaign on GAedit

In the fall of 1741, therefore, Philip V issued ordered to Guemes in Havana and to Montiano in Saint Augustine to prepare for a new campaign on Georgia. Guemes’ strategy called for a sea attack on Georgia some time between April and June when storms were least likely to interfere with troop movements. A land offensive, stated the Cuban governor, was too dangerous and too unpredictable. For his invasion Guemes requested at least six frigates of 24 to 30 cannon to carry land forces to Georgia and to protect them once they disembarked. He also needed a large number of longboats, canoes, and dugouts to transport his troops. Guemes planned first to seize Port Royal and then move south down the Georgia coast, devastating English settlements on the coastal channel. (Tepaske GSF)
