Moral's court appeals finally paid off
In any event, on July 10, 1748, the Council finally handed down its decision. It absolved Moral of all guilt, granted him the right to bring suit against his accusers, and restored the property Justis had sequestered in 1737. Moral’s persistence had combined with the ponderous machinery of Spanish justice to exonerate the former governor and to demonstrate once again the failure of the residencia system.
