Montiano served nine extra years in SA
Moral’s successor, Manuel de Montiano, served a greatly extended term. Becoming governor in 1737, he did not depart until 1749, nine years more than the usual tenure in office. Florida needed an able, efficient administrator. When the king found one like Benavides or Montiano, he was content to maintain the status quo and avoid the trouble of naming a new governor.
