Gov Navarrete arranged to educte the sons of 22 Uchize chiefs
Montiano’s successor in the governorship, Melchor de Navarrete, continued the policy of wooing the Indians. Late in 1749 he feted a band of 22 Uchize chiefs and obtained permission from them to educate the sons of Uchize leaders.
