Gov of Cuba appointed Solis temporary gov of SAedit

Both Joseph de Justis and Fulgencio Garcia de Solis were appointees of the governor of Cuba. Neither was in any way connected with Florida prior to assuming the temporary governorship. ...In 1752 Garcia de Solis replaced Governor Melchor de Navarrete, who was on special orders to proceed immediately to Yucatan without waiting for his successor to arrive. [Note: This was unusual and deviated sharply from normal procedure.] ...Interim governors had the same wide military experience as their permanent counterparts. The record of Fulgencio Garcia de Solis (1752-1755) included tours of duty in North Africa near Ceuta, in Italy at Milan, and in Spain at Pamplona and San Sebastian. In Cuba he won a battlefield promotion to lieutenant colonel in a fight against Admiral Edward Vernon at Guantanamo Bay. (Tepaske GSF)
