Gov Feliu had an impressive military background
The last governor before the British occupation was Melchor Feliu (1762-1764), who apparently completed the unbroken chain of military leaders for the colony. His principal duty, once he reached Saint Augustine, was to evacuate all Spanish residents to Cuba.
