"In the said village of San Buenaventura on the said day the twenty-first of December, sixteen eighty-five, I, the notary, in the presence of the witnesses in attendance stated before, notified and made the preceding auto known to Captain Alonso de Arguelles, lieutenant of this province, and showed him the original title of visitor of it dispatched by the senor Governor Don Juan Marquez Cabrera to Sergeant Major Domingo de Leturiondo, and having seen, heard, and understood it, [f.95] he said that he would obey, and that in regard to what is ordered by the said auto, he surrendered himself to be suspended from the post and lieutenancy which he exercises in order not to make use of it in any manner. And so that it is on record he signed it together with the said Diego Camunas as witness in attendance. The said squad leader did not sign it, not knowing how to. To all of the above I, the notary, swear.
