Governor Benito Ruiz de Salazar Vallecilla (1645-1651) opened up fur trade operations with Apalachicola, north of Apalache, and started a wheat farm at Asile in Ustaqua. (Auto on Bishopric, September 30 to October 5, 1645; Domingo de Leturiondo, Madrid, December 30, 1672. [Note: Asile, on the border between two Spanish provinces, was sometimes said to be in Apalache and sometimes in Timucua.) (Bushnell MM)
