In 1564 a Spanish vessel was sent from Habana to find the French and root them out, and the narrative of this expedition states that there were said to be 17 towns around the Bay of Santa Elena. A town called Usta is mentioned, evidently identical with Audusta, and another town, not elsewhere recorded, called Yanahume. In the former was a Frenchman who had remained in the country rather than take chances in the small vessel in which his companions had ventured forth. (Swanton)
