...and in [a letter] of June 14, 1681, [Gov. Cabrera] states that some Guale Indians had taken to the woods, while others had assembled in the Florida towns farther south, the town of Carlos, "40 leagues from St. Augustine," being particularly mentioned. (Swanton)
