Georgia land, and indeed the whole South Atlantic coast of North America, came into history as a region lying across the pathway to fabled realms of untold wealth and alluring romance. Ayllon, seeking to exploit the land of the Giant King Datha, planted a shortlived colony on the shores of South Carolina (1526).
