From time to time, in the course of the seventeenth century, Spanish expeditions were sent to investigate these rumors. Soldiers and Indians despatched by Governor Salinas in 1624 scoured the Georgia-Carolina interior for one hundred and fifty leagues, but they found no trace of the rumored "gente blanca รก caballo." Another party sent by Salinas had like success.
